The ONE thing that CHANGED my Marketing!

But, I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO WRITE!!!! Have you ever said this? Chances are, you have. Almost everyone I know has said this. Hell, I've said it!

In a world where we are all left feeling like we need to constantly churn out content faster than it's being consumed (and the consumption vs. shelf life is tough on social media platforms) having a mental block on WHAT ELSE you can possibly talk about seems normal.

Plus, content creation doesn't come naturally to everyone. And that is okay.

As photographers, entrepreneurs, small business owners, creatives, artists, whatever...we tend to stick to what we know. Many times that is just facts. Random facts, tidbits of information, sales posts. And then we wonder why we get such low engagement and bookings off such boring content. We blame the algorithms, but...it's really us.

I'm a big believer in content as a marketing strategy, BUT, there is a tactic that goes along with content creation that MANY are missing. And once I started doing THIS...it really changed how I market my entire business. Plus, my marketing has been stronger, and I've gotten so many more leads, bookings, and just genuine connections from changing up my strategy.

So what is the strategy that changed my marketing? Storytelling.
Why? Because while data can resonate with the rational brain, stories are what will resonate with the emotional brain. And as creatives who sell a niche service, WE are appealing to EMOTION, not logic, always.
In order to get people to retain your information and truly connect with what you are saying, you need to combine storytelling WITH facts and information.

3 Actionable tips to help you begin incorporating storytelling into your content!

๐—ง๐—œ๐—ฃ #๐Ÿญ When something comes to mind, a memory of a story, event, or moment that you feel an emotional attachment or pull too, that you think is interesting or unique or that in any way relates back to your WHY....write it down and save it for reference later! We randomly think of things so often and then quickly forget them.

๐—ง๐—œ๐—ฃ #๐Ÿฎ To expand on tip one, use a TRELLO board, a notebook, or whatever works for YOU, to keep a story bank. Separate from your content pillars or bank, these are stories you can go back to and tie into your content when you are creating! Even if you don't know how you will use it if you find it intriguing, put it in there!

๐—ง๐—œ๐—ฃ #๐Ÿฏ Use voice memos or recordings to say things out loud as if you were speaking to a friend. Then, listen back and start taking note of how you speak in real life. This will help you write more naturally, and allow your writing to be more relaxed and genuine, less stiff

And a bonus tip for you...keep writing. Practice with writing exercises. And even if what you've written sucks, even if you aren't a great storyteller or writer, just keep practicing. Keep trying. I promise WITH practice it not only gets easier, but you'll get better. It's just like anything else, the more you exercise that creative writing muscle, the better it will get.

And don't say you don't have any cool, funny, or interesting stories. We ALL do. I promise. So get out there and start telling them!
